Spiritual Depression

Charles Spurgeon, the great Victorian preacher, once wrote, 'Fits of depression come over the most of us. Usually cheerful as we may be, we must at intervals be cast down. The strong are not always vigorous, the wise not always ready, the brave not always courageous, and the joyous not always happy. There maybe here and there men of iron, to whom wear and tear work no perceptible detriment, but surely the rust frets even these.'

What are those things that have the power to pull you down, to leave you feeling depressed or disillusioned with life, or your faith?

Strangely, the Bible contains the life stories of many 'men of iron' - great and able men, who nevertheless experienced times of despair. The prophet Jeremiah was one such man. This Sunday we will see what it was that dragged him down, and how the Lord spoke to him in ways that brought him back up to joy.
