Men have a responsible and special role in God’s creation, which is expressed and exemplified throughout the Bible. At Westlake Church Lausanne we aim to diligently discover and grow in our role as godly men. This involves many aspects, such as studying and discussing the Bible with other men, building friendships and mentorships across the generations, joint activities and sports, and by supporting those in need of help.
As Christian men we are committed to assisting each other in growing stronger in our obedience to and love of Jesus, in discernment and practical application of our faith as individuals, in our families, at our workplace and in society. We all know what impact the good news of Jesus can potentially have wherever God has placed us in life.
Just a few verses encouraging us in this are:
‘As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another’. Proverbs 27:17
‘Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.‘ Galatians 6:2
‘… and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.’ 2 Timothy 2:2
‘Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.’ 1 Corinthians 16:13
‘And I looked, and rose up, and said unto the nobles and to the rulers and to the rest of the people, ‘Be not afraid of them; remember the Lord, who is great and fearsome, and fight for your brethren, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your houses.’ Nehemiah 4:14
Currently, the range of our official men’s ministry activities includes:
- Regular seminars and discussions on topics especially relevant to us as men.
- Monthly Saturday morning meeting in a local bakery for friendship and relaxation.
- Popular sports activities: Ski ‘n Steam (skiing, hot pool and dinner) and Hike ‘n Bike (autumn hiking and biking). These activities are geared for all levels of (un)fitness!
We are always open to new ideas. At present we do not have a weekly men’s Bible study, as we encourage participation in our numerous weekly homegroups (see Home Groups section).
